Frequently Asked Questions
I don’t have a standard size garage door, what options do I have?
There are a multitude of custom options that can be tailored to fit your garage door opening including custom wood doors ordered to your specifications. You also have the option of reframing the opening to accommodate a standard door size.
Should I choose an insulated or non-insulated garage door?
Insulated doors will help maintain a cooler garage in the summer and a warmer garage in the winter. Not only does it help with temperature fluctuations in the garage it can also reduce your heating and cooling needs in the house if it’s an attached garage. Also consider that an insulated door will normally have a more attractive interior look as well as offer noise reduction.
One of my springs is broken, do I have to replace both springs?
No, although we recommend you do. The reason for this is that garage door springs have a limited cycle count (a cycle is garage door up and down one time). Since most likely both springs have had the same amount of cycles it is likely the other will fail soon. Replacing both will also cost less due to the technician already being on-site.
If my garage door opener isn’t functioning is there a way to still open the garage door?
Yes, most garage door installations have the ability to be manually operated without the use of an opener. The majority of residential installations have a cord or lever that you pull that disconnects the door from the trolley on the opener. This will then allow for manual operation of the door.
Can I replace a damaged section instead of the entire garage door?
Depending on the condition of the rest of the garage door you can as long as the door is still being manufactured. Give us a call and we will let you know what options you have available.
How do I know if my garage door is balanced properly?
When open the bottom of the door should be even with the header
When opening and closing the door should maintain a consistent pace with no jerkiness.
When closing there should be no slamming or loud noises.
Why does my garage door open but not close?
The most likely cause if there aren’t any damaged springs, tracks or rollers would be the electronic sensor eyes near the base of the garage door. These must be facing each other and have no obstructions between them. If there are the garage door opener will not close the door.
Aren’t all garage doors and openers pretty much the same?
Garage doors are the largest moving object in a persons home and we rely on their safe and reliable operation every day of the year. It’s also one of the first things someone sees when they come to your home. An insulated garage door can improve your heating and cooling costs in the garage and in your home.
